FAQ
Why focus on laundry when so many organizations already provide food and clothing?
Food, clothing, and shelter are essential — but they do not address one critical need: the ability to wash what you already own. Many people experiencing poverty have clothes and bedding but lack access to money, machines, detergent, transportation, or a safe place to do laundry. Clean clothes restore dignity, health, and hope.
Isn’t laundry included at shelters?
Sometimes — but often not. Many shelters have limited machines, strict schedules, or no laundry access at all. Those living in cars, motels, doubled-up housing, or on the street typically have no laundry access whatsoever.
Why don’t people just go to a laundromat?
Using a laundromat requires:
Money for machines and detergent
Transportation
Time to wait safely
Child supervision
For many families and individuals, these barriers make laundry impossible, even when basic needs are being met elsewhere.
Why is clean clothing and bedding so important?
Clean clothes affect:
Physical health
Mental and emotional well-being
Self-worth and dignity
Employment and school opportunities
How others treat and respond to someone
Laundry is about more than cleanliness — it’s about being seen as human.
Why is this need often overlooked?
Laundry is a service, not a donation item. It requires presence, consistency, volunteers, and ongoing funding. Because it doesn’t fit neatly into a donation bin or pantry shelf, it is often unintentionally neglected — even though the need is constant.
